Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions and answers about using Cha-Ching

General Questions

What is Cha-Ching?

Cha-Ching is a governance participation tracking platform that helps DAOs and Web3 projects track, reward, and permanently archive governance contributions. It combines real-time tracking, transparent leaderboards, and on-chain token rewards with seamless GitHub integration.

Is Cha-Ching free to use?

Yes! Cha-Ching is free for contributors to use. You simply sign in with your GitHub account and start participating in governance activities.

Do I need a crypto wallet?

You need a wallet only if you want to claim on-chain rewards. You can still participate, earn points, and track your contributions without a wallet. When you're ready to claim rewards, you can connect a compatible Web3 wallet like MetaMask.

Which blockchains does Cha-Ching support?

Cha-Ching is designed to support multiple blockchain networks. The specific chains available depend on the organization running the epoch. Check individual epoch details to see which networks are used for rewards.

Can I participate in multiple epochs at once?

Yes! You can participate in as many active epochs as you like. Each epoch tracks your contributions independently, and you can earn rewards from multiple epochs simultaneously.

Account & Authentication

How do I create an account?

Click the "Sign In" button and authenticate with your GitHub account. Cha-Ching uses GitHub OAuth for secure authentication, so you don't need to create a separate account or remember another password.

Why does Cha-Ching need access to my GitHub account?

Cha-Ching tracks your governance contributions through GitHub (PRs, issues, reviews, etc.). We need read access to your public GitHub data to attribute contributions to your account and calculate your points and rewards.

Can I use multiple GitHub accounts?

Cha-Ching links to one GitHub account per user. If you contribute from multiple GitHub accounts, contact the governance administrators to manually link your contributions.

How do I sign out?

Click your profile picture or username in the top right corner, then select "Sign Out" from the dropdown menu.

Missions & Contributions

How are missions created?

Missions are typically created automatically based on GitHub activity in tracked repositories. When you create a PR, open an issue, or submit a review, it may become a mission if it meets the epoch's criteria.

Why isn't my contribution showing up?

Several reasons your contribution might not appear:

  • The repository isn't part of the current epoch
  • Your contribution is in a private repository (only public repos are typically tracked)
  • There's a delay in GitHub API updates (usually a few minutes)
  • The contribution doesn't meet the epoch's qualification criteria

Wait a few minutes and refresh. If it still doesn't appear, contact support.

How are mission points calculated?

Point values are determined by the mission type, complexity, and importance. Organizations can configure point formulas for their epochs. Generally:

  • Large, merged PRs earn the most points
  • Quality code reviews earn significant points
  • Well-documented issues earn moderate points
  • Comments and discussions earn smaller amounts

Can I complete missions from closed epochs?

No, contributions only count during the epoch's active period. Work completed before or after an epoch's dates won't count toward that epoch's rewards, though it may count for other active epochs.

Rewards & Claims

When can I claim my rewards?

Rewards become claimable after an epoch ends and final calculations are complete. This usually takes a few hours after the epoch end date. You'll receive a notification when rewards are ready.

Do rewards expire?

Reward availability depends on the specific organization's policies. Check the epoch details for any expiration dates. Generally, rewards remain claimable for an extended period, but don't wait indefinitely.

What if my claim fails?

The system automatically retries failed claims up to 3 times. You'll receive notifications about each attempt. If all retries fail, contact support with your transaction details. Common causes of failures include:

  • Insufficient gas/network fees in your wallet
  • Network congestion causing timeouts
  • Incorrect network selected in your wallet
  • Wallet not properly connected

Can I claim partial rewards?

It depends on the epoch configuration. Some epochs allow claiming individual rewards, while others require claiming all at once. Check the rewards interface for available options.

Why are my rewards less than expected?

Rewards are distributed proportionally based on:

  • Your points relative to the total points in the epoch
  • The total reward pool size
  • Any minimum thresholds or bonus criteria
  • Network fees (gas) deducted from payouts

Leaderboards & Rankings

How often do leaderboards update?

Leaderboards update in real-time thanks to WebSocket technology. When anyone completes a mission, leaderboards refresh automatically within seconds.

Why did my ranking go down even though I earned points?

Rankings are relative. If other contributors earn points faster than you, your rank can drop even as your point total increases. Focus on accumulating points rather than just maintaining rank.

Are there rewards for top leaderboard positions?

This depends on the epoch configuration. Some epochs offer bonus rewards for top positions, while others distribute rewards purely based on point percentage. Check each epoch's details for its specific reward structure.

Technical Issues

The site isn't loading or is very slow

  • Check your internet connection

I'm not receiving real-time updates

If you don't see the "Live Updates Active" indicator:

  • Refresh the page
  • Check if your browser or network is blocking WebSocket connections
  • Disable VPN temporarily to test connection
  • Try a different network (mobile data vs. WiFi)

My wallet won't connect

  • Ensure your wallet extension is installed and unlocked
  • Check that you're on the correct network
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting
  • Clear your browser cache
  • Update your wallet extension to the latest version

Data looks incorrect or outdated

  • Try refreshing the page
  • Clear your browser cache
  • Check if the epoch or data has been updated recently
  • If the problem persists, report it with specific details

Privacy & Security

Is my data private?

Cha-Ching only tracks public GitHub activity. We don't access private repositories or personal data beyond what's publicly available. Governance participation is intentionally transparent.

Can I delete my data?

You can delete your account at any time, but archived contributions remain public for transparency and immutability. This is by design - governance records need to be permanent and verifiable. Contact [email protected] for data deletion requests.

How is my wallet address used?

Your wallet address is only used to send reward payments. We never request your private keys or seed phrase. Only connect your wallet when claiming rewards.
